Stuck in El Salvador during the pandemic, Rodolfo learned lots about farming. Finca Guanacaste, which he inherited from his dad, contained coffee plants suffering from leaf rust decease. The farm became his playground to experiment and repair the relationship between climate, soil and biodiversity to create healthy coffee plants again.

Rodolfo started working with an agronomist and microbiologist to focus on the nutrition of the plants. They grew microorganisms and beneficial fungus that enriched the soil and fed natural minerals, calcium and nitrogen to the plants. Guanacaste trees which had disappeared from the landscape for their wood have been replanted as shade trees as part of reforestation. Currently there are paprika, chilli peppers, hibiscus, heirloom tomatoes and cacao growing. And own compost is created with manure of turkeys and with help of earth worms.

The coffee trees had a natural make over, they gained so much strength that they became resistant to the leaf rust. Resulting in a super tasty red bourbon variety. Try it for yourself!

Sometimes we run into coffees that have great people behind them, are produced organically with best intentions for nature and the future of coffee growing but are not officially certified. These producers we still want to support and share their coffee with you. You recognize these coffees by the green B-symbol on the coffee bag label.
